Groove Rats are a London-based rhythm & blues band blending vintage blues & soul with modern grooves. Known for high-energy live shows that light up pubs, venues, and festivals alike, we bring infectious rhythms, soulful vocals, and crowd-moving classic blues with an R&B groovy twist. Whether it’s an intimate pub night or a festival stage, Groove Rats deliver a fresh, powerful sound that gets audiences dancing and promoters coming back for more.

The Band in a nutshell

Our Story

Groove Rats began in the summer of 2022, when harp player and vocalist Robin Nevill, a regular on the London jam circuit, set out to form his own Chicago blues-inspired band.

From the very first rehearsal, guitarist Angelos Oikonomopoulos was by his side, helping Robin shape the group’s sound and direction. The early line-ups went through changes, but together they kept pushing the project forward. It was during this time that the band found its name, Groove Rats, reflecting their focus on rhythm, groove, and energy rather than a typical “blues-band” label.

The line-up truly came together in late 2023, with drummer Anya Fletcher bringing her Stax-inspired drive and bassist Alex Herman adding both seasoned musicianship and sound engineering experience. This four-piece line-up has become the band’s core, developing a unique sound that blends Robin’s Chicago-style harp and soulful vocals with Anya's tight Stax-groove drumming, Alex’s steady, cornerstone bass, and Angelos’ mix of Motown and Texas inspired guitar playing.

With this chemistry, Groove Rats bring a modern yet classic rhythm & blues energy to London pubs, venues, and festivals, earning a reputation for fresh grooves and crowd-moving live shows.
